UVA Community Recommendation?

Hi everyone! I'm working on my UVA application, and I noticed there's an option for a community recommendation. What exactly does this entail and do you think it's worth getting one to strengthen my application? Any advice is appreciated!

Hello! A community recommendation for UVA is a letter of recommendation from someone in your community who can speak to your character, work ethic, and values outside of the academic setting. This recommender could be a volunteer coordinator, a coach, a mentor, an employer, or any other non-relative who has played a significant role in your life and can vouch for your personal qualities.

When deciding whether or not to include a community recommendation, consider your existing recommendations from teachers and counselors. If you feel those letters already provide a comprehensive view of your academic achievements and personal strengths, an additional community recommendation might not be necessary. However, if you believe a community recommendation could offer a unique and helpful perspective on your character that isn't well-represented in your other recommendations, it could be a valuable addition to your application.

To make the most of a community recommendation, select someone who knows you well and has seen your personal growth, leadership skills, and involvement in activities outside school. They should be able to provide specific and detailed examples to illustrate your qualities, as those tend to have the greatest impact.
