Freshman Summer Program Experiences?

I'm thinking about applying for a summer program before my freshman year in college. Has anyone had any great experiences with specific programs that they could recommend? Are there any unique or special programs that really stand out?

I've come across many students who have had positive experiences with pre-college summer programs, and I can certainly recommend a few that stand out for their unique offerings and immersive experiences.

1. Tisch Summer High School Program at NYU: If you're interested in the arts, this program offers courses in fields like film, theater, and game design. Students get hands-on experience and work with NYU faculty and resources, giving them a taste of what a college arts program might be like.

2. MIT LaunchX: This entrepreneurial program attracts students interested in starting their own businesses. During the program, students work in teams to develop a start-up idea, engage with guest speakers, and have access to mentorship from MIT faculty and successful entrepreneurs. At the end of the program, students pitch their start-up to real investors.

3. Research Science Institute (RSI) at MIT: For aspiring scientists, RSI is a highly prestigious program focusing on hands-on research experience. Students are placed in research labs and work with prominent scientists on cutting-edge projects. In addition to lab work, participants attend lectures and present their research findings at the end of the program.

4. Summer Writing Program at the Iowa Young Writers’ Studio: Budding writers may find this program particularly appealing. The two-week program is hosted by the University of Iowa, well-known for its prestigious Iowa Writers' Workshop. Students in this program focus on fiction, poetry, or creative nonfiction, participate in writing workshops, and receive guidance from published writers.

These programs can provide excellent opportunities to explore your academic interests, gain new skills, and make connections with like-minded students. Keep in mind that some programs are highly competitive, and it's important to research their application requirements and deadlines thoroughly. Additionally, ensure that the program duration does not conflict with your college orientation or move-in schedule. Good luck exploring these unique opportunities!
