Becoming an AP Scholar

I've heard about this AP Scholar status thing, and I'm interested in learning more about the requirements and benefits of achieving it. Does anyone have any experience or knowledge about this? Thanks in advance!

AP Scholar is an honor awarded by the College Board to students who have demonstrated outstanding college-level achievement through their performance on multiple AP exams. There are several levels of AP Scholar recognition, each with its own requirements:

1. AP Scholar: Granted to students who score 3 or higher on three or more AP exams.

2. AP Scholar with Honor: Granted to students who have an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP exams they've taken and score 3 or higher on four or more exams.

3. AP Scholar with Distinction: Granted to students who have an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP exams they've taken and score 3 or higher on five or more exams.

4. State AP Scholar: Granted to the male and female student in each U.S. state and the District of Columbia who have the highest average score on the greatest number of AP exams (with a minimum score of 3 on each).

5. National AP Scholar: Granted to U.S. students who have an average score of at least 4 on all AP exams they've taken and score 4 or higher on eight or more exams.

As for the benefits of becoming an AP Scholar, they mostly boil down to recognition. Achieving AP Scholar status highlights your commitment to academic excellence and dedication to challenging yourself with college-level coursework. This can be a positive factor on your college application, as it shows colleges that you are capable of handling rigorous courses. Additionally, mentioning this recognition in your college application can help reinforce other aspects of your application, such as your grades, extracurricular involvement, and academic interests.

However, keep in mind that being an AP Scholar is just one part of your overall college application, and many students who apply to top-tier colleges also have AP Scholar distinctions. Thus, while it is a notable accomplishment, it may not in and of itself distinguish you significantly from other highly competitive applicants. Focus on building upon this achievement by demonstrating your passion and dedication in other areas, such as extracurricular activities and your personal statement.
