Cal Poly SAT requirements - do they have a minimum?

Hi there! I'm planning on applying to Cal Poly, and I was wondering if they have a minimum SAT score requirement for admissions. Also, how important are SAT scores in the overall decision process? Any advice is appreciated! Thanks!

Hello! Cal Poly, like many other universities, does not have a strict minimum SAT score requirement for admissions. That being said, having competitive SAT scores can certainly improve your chances in the admissions process. To get an idea of the typical score range for accepted students, you can look at Cal Poly's middle 50% SAT range. For the class of 2027, the middle 50% SAT range was 1260-1450. This means that 25% of admitted students scored below 1260, while another 25% scored above 1450. It's worth noting that if your score falls below this range, it doesn't automatically disqualify you from admission, but it can make it more difficult to stand out.

Cal Poly emphasizes academics in its admissions process; thus, SAT scores are an important factor. However, other aspects of your application, like your high school GPA, coursework (particularly if it's relevant to your intended major), extracurricular activities, and any leadership positions you've held, will also play a critical role in the overall decision.

My advice would be to aim for a competitive SAT score within or above Cal Poly's middle 50% range. If your score falls below that, make sure to focus on other components of your application that can bolster your profile, such as extracurricular involvement or a persuasive admissions essay. Good luck on your journey to applying to Cal Poly!
