UCI Average GPA Acceptance

Hello, I'm applying to UCI and was curious about what the average GPA is for accepted students. Is there a significant difference between the average GPA for in-state vs. out-of-state students? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Hello! The University of California, Irvine (UCI) is a competitive institution, and the average high school GPA for admitted students typically falls around 4.07-4.28 on the weighted UC scale (which takes into consideration honors, AP, and IB coursework). Keep in mind that this is an average, so plenty of students with GPAs above and below that range are admitted as well. GPA is just one factor in evaluating applicants—other factors like extracurricular activities, essays, and course rigor are also considered.

Regarding the difference in the average GPA for in-state vs. out-of-state students, the admissions data does not typically separate students by residency in relation to GPA. However, it is important to note that the University of California system generally prioritizes admitting in-state students. While competition for spots at UCI can be tough for both in-state and out-of-state applicants, out-of-state students might experience slightly higher standards, making it more crucial for them to have a strong overall application to stand out.

Best of luck with your application to UCI!
