Best Time to Start College Visits?

Hey guys! So I'm trying to plan out my college visits and I was wondering, when should I start doing that? Should I visit during my junior year or would senior year be a better time?

Hi there! Ideally, you should start your college visits during the second half of your junior year. This gives you ample time to explore campuses and get a feel for the schools you're interested in. It also allows you to make better-informed decisions when crafting your final college list.

Visits during the academic year are often more insightful since you can observe the campus atmosphere when classes are in session and students are present. This helps you gauge the campus culture and social environment. Moreover, many schools offer admitted student events in the spring of your senior year, giving you another chance to see schools you're accepted to before making your decision.

Summer visits, while less ideal due to the absence of a typical campus atmosphere, are still useful, especially if that's the only time you can manage to visit. Just keep in mind that the campus environment may be quite different from what it's like on an ordinary school day.

Lastly, don't stress if you can't visit every school you're interested in before applying. You can always make visits after you're accepted, and virtual campus tours and online information sessions are increasingly becoming more comprehensive and useful, helping students gain a sense of the school without being physically present.
