What exactly is ED2?

Hey guys, I came across the abbreviation 'ED2' and I assume it's related to college applications, but I'm not quite sure what it stands for. Can someone please enlighten me on what ED2 is and how it works?

Hey there! ED2 stands for Early Decision II, which is pretty similar to Early Decision I (ED1) in terms of being a binding college application process. The main difference is the timeline. ED2 deadlines usually fall around January, while ED1 deadlines are typically in November.

When you apply through ED, you commit to enroll at that particular college if accepted and withdraw all other applications from other schools. Both ED1 and ED2 offer you the advantage of demonstrating a strong interest in the school you're applying to, which might result in a slightly higher chance of being admitted compared to applying through Regular Decision (RD).

ED2 can come in handy under several circumstances. For example, if you've applied to another school through ED1 and were not accepted or deferred, you can still apply to a different school through the ED2 option. Alternatively, if you aren't quite ready with your application by the ED1 deadline but still want to demonstrate your commitment to your top-choice school, you can opt for ED2 instead.

Keep in mind that applying through ED (whether ED1 or ED2) is a binding agreement, so you should only apply if you're confident that you want to attend that school and it's financially feasible for you and your family. Make sure you've done thorough research on the school and have a clear understanding of the financial aid opportunities before applying.

I hope that clears up what ED2 is and how it works in the college application process!
