College orientation tips: What should I expect?

Hey folks, I'm going to my college orientation soon. Any tips on what to expect, and how to make the most of it? Would appreciate any advice you can share!

Hi there! College orientation is an exciting time, and it can be a mix of both fun and informative events. Here are some tips on what to expect and how to make the most of it:

1. Meeting new people: This is a great opportunity to connect with fellow incoming students, as well as current students who may be orientation leaders. Be open to striking up conversations with a variety of people. You never know who could become your new friends!

2. Campus tours and info sessions: Expect to attend campus tours and info sessions on topics like academic advising, clubs and organizations, and campus resources. These sessions are valuable, so pay close attention and take notes if you can.

3. Icebreakers: There will likely be a variety of icebreaker activities designed to help you get to know your peers better, so be prepared to participate. Although these activities can sometimes feel awkward, they're a great way to build connections quickly.

4. Housing and roommates: If you haven't already, you'll likely find out who your roommate(s) will be, so take this opportunity to introduce yourself and start getting to know them.

5. ID cards and paperwork: You'll probably receive your student ID card and may need to complete other administrative tasks. Make sure to bring any required documentation with you.

6. Free swag and food: Most orientations include free university swag and catered meals, so be sure to take advantage of the perks!

7. Don't be afraid to ask questions: If there's something you're unsure about or would like more information on, don't hesitate to ask orientation leaders or staff. They're there to help.

To make the most out of your orientation experience:

1. Be present and engaged: Although it can be tempting to be on your phone or mentally check out, strive to be fully present and engaged throughout the orientation. You'll get much more out of the experience this way.

2. Step out of your comfort zone: Try to push past any social anxiety or shyness and meet as many people as possible. Everyone is in the same boat, and most are eager to make new connections, too.

3. Take notes: Jot down important information, as well as the names and contact information of the people you meet. This will help you remember key details and stay organized.

4. Attend optional events: If there are any optional events or social activities, consider attending them as they can be great opportunities for further connection and learning about campus life.
