Best colleges for LGBTQ+ students?

Hi folks! I'm a junior and I'm starting to think about applying to college. As a queer student, I want to find colleges that are inclusive and supportive of LGBTQ+ students. Can anyone recommend some schools that are known for being particularly welcoming to the community? Thanks!

Hi there! It's great to see that you're considering the LGBTQ+ friendliness of colleges during your application process. There are indeed several colleges that have a reputation for being particularly supportive and inclusive of LGBTQ+ students. Here are a few notable ones in no particular order:

1. Brown University: Brown has an extensive LGBTQ+ center that offers resources, programming, and support for queer and trans students. The university also has a strong commitment to trans-inclusive policies, such as gender-inclusive housing and healthcare.

2. Tufts University: Tufts is another institution well-known for its dedication to LGBTQ+ students. They have an LGBTQ+ Center that provides support and programming, and the university actively promotes gender-neutral housing and restroom options.

3. University of California, Berkeley: UC Berkeley is also recognized for being LGBTQ+-friendly. Alongside their Gender Equity Resource Center, the school offers numerous resources, including campus policies, organizations, and academic courses that cater specifically to the LGBTQ+ community.

4. New York University: NYU has a strong commitment to LGBTQ+ inclusivity, with the NYU LGBTQ+ Center and various student organizations specifically for LGBTQ+ students. The university also offers gender-neutral housing and restroom options.

5. University of Pennsylvania: UPenn is another school that takes pride in its LGBTQ+ inclusivity. With its LGBTQ+ Center and numerous student organizations, the university aims to create a welcoming environment for queer and trans students.

Of course, these are just a few examples, and there are many other colleges that are welcoming to the LGBTQ+ community. As you do your research, consider looking up each college's LGBTQ+ resources and policies, and reach out to current or former LGBTQ+ students for insights on their experiences. Best of luck on your college search!
