Need Help Finding Good Colleges for Screenwriting!

Hey everyone, I'm a junior and I've been getting really into screenwriting lately. I'd love to major in it when I go to college. Can you suggest any colleges that are well-known for their screenwriting programs? Any info on the courses they offer, resources, faculty, etc. would be awesome. Thanks in advance!

I'm glad to hear you're passionate about screenwriting! Here are a few colleges and universities that have excellent screenwriting programs, along with some information about their offerings:

1. University of Southern California (USC): USC's School of Cinematic Arts offers a BFA in Writing for Screen and Television. The program emphasizes storytelling techniques, character creation, and development, as well as the industry's business aspects. USC is known for its prestigious faculty, who have extensive industry experience, and for its state-of-the-art facilities.

2. New York University (NYU): Tisch School of the Arts at NYU offers a BFA in Dramatic Writing. The program focuses on stage, film, and television writing, all while providing a comprehensive liberal arts education to boot. Students have opportunities to collaborate with others in the film, theater, and television programs, which can lead to valuable networking connections.

3. Emerson College: Emerson's BFA in Writing for Film and Television prepares students for careers in both mediums. The program emphasizes original content creation, story and character development, and dramatic structure. Emerson also offers study-abroad opportunities in Los Angeles and the Netherlands, which allow students to gain exposure to different aspects of the industry.

4. Loyola Marymount University (LMU): LMU's School of Film and Television offers a BA in Screenwriting, which focuses on narrative storytelling. Students learn about the entire filmmaking process, in addition to honing their screenwriting skills. This program provides internship opportunities in Los Angeles, which allow students to network and gain real-world experience.

5. Chapman University: Chapman's Dodge College of Film and Media Arts offers a BFA in Creative Producing, which includes a strong screenwriting component. Students learn how to prepare, develop, and pitch projects. In their senior year, they're expected to create a production-ready thesis project, which is a valuable addition to their professional portfolio.

These are just a few examples of schools with strong screenwriting programs. As you research these and other programs, pay attention to the courses offered, internship and study-abroad opportunities, faculty backgrounds, and any unique aspects of each program. Good luck with your search, and I hope you find the perfect fit for your screenwriting aspirations!
