Is it better to have a high GPA or challenging classes?

Hi everyone, I'm a junior trying to balance my course load. Is it better to have a high GPA with easier classes or a slightly lower GPA with more challenging classes? I want to make sure I'm doing what's best for my college applications. Thanks for your help!

Hello! It's great that you're thinking about your college applications early. From my experience with my own child's college application process, I can say that both GPA and challenging classes are important. However, it's best to find a balance between the two. Colleges like to see that you've challenged yourself with harder courses, but they also look for a strong GPA to show your commitment and ability to excel academically. If you can maintain a high GPA while taking challenging classes, that's the best scenario. But if you're struggling with a particular subject, it's okay to take an easier class to ensure you maintain a strong GPA. Ultimately, it's about finding the right mix for you – challenge yourself without overwhelming yourself. Don't forget to also focus on extracurricular activities and other aspects of your application, as colleges consider the whole package. Good luck!
