Things to do senior year of high school?

Hey everyone! I'm currently a junior and just starting to think about my senior year. What are some important things I should be doing during my senior year to make the most of that time and prepare for college applications?

Hi there! Senior year is an exciting time, and there are several key steps you should take to make the most of it and get ready for college applications:

1. Narrow down your college list: Research colleges and figure out which ones are a good fit academically, socially, and financially. Aim for a balanced list with a mix of reach, target, and safety schools.

2. Complete your college applications: Begin working on your applications during the summer before senior year. This includes completing the Common App or other application platforms, writing your personal statement, and drafting supplemental essays. Be sure to start early and give yourself plenty of time for revisions.

3. Request letters of recommendation: Ask teachers, coaches, or other adults who know you well if they'd be willing to write you a letter of recommendation. It's best to ask early in the school year, so they have ample time to write a thoughtful letter.

4. Stay involved in extracurricular activities: Continue participating in clubs, sports, and other activities you're passionate about. It's important to demonstrate consistency, commitment, and leadership in your chosen activities.

5. Maintain strong grades: Although it's your senior year, colleges still pay attention to your grades. Maintain a high level of academic performance and challenge yourself with a rigorous course load.

6. Plan for standardized testing: If you haven't already taken the SAT or ACT, schedule a test date and develop a study plan. Research the test-optional or test-blind policies of the colleges you're applying to because some schools do not require test scores.

7. Apply for financial aid and scholarships: Complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) as soon as possible after October 1st. Research scholarship opportunities, both merit-based and need-based, that you may be eligible for and start applying.

8. Visit college campuses: If possible, visit the schools on your list to get a feel for the campus environment, engage with current students and faculty, and attend information sessions. If in-person visits aren't feasible, take advantage of virtual campus tours and online resources.

9. Submit your applications on time: Keep track of application deadlines and submit each application well in advance. Ensure you have all the necessary materials, including transcripts, test scores (if required), and letters of recommendation.

10. Prepare for decision notifications: Be patient as you await admission decisions, but also prepare for the different outcomes. Research your top-choice schools in more depth, consider your options, and be prepared to make a decision upon receiving acceptances.

11. Make the most of senior year: While focusing on preparing for college applications, don't forget to enjoy your final year of high school with your friends, participate in school events, and create lasting memories.

Stay organized and proactive to make your senior year a successful one. Best of luck!
