How many activities and awards should I submit on the UC application?

Hello! When applying to UC schools, how many activities and awards do you think I should include on my application to make it look strong? Is there a recommended number or should I just go for quality over quantity? Thanks for your help!

Hi there! The UC application allows you to report up to 20 activities and awards across the following five sections: coursework other than A-G, educational preparation programs, volunteer and community service, work experience, and awards and honors. It's important to strike a balance between quality and quantity when listing your extracurriculars and achievements.

You don't need to fill in all 20 slots if you don't have substantive activities or awards to report. Instead, prioritize showcasing your most significant accomplishments and meaningful involvements. Remember that admissions officers value the impact and depth of your experiences over simply demonstrating a long list of activities.

With that in mind, focus on highlighting activities where you exhibit strong leadership, commitment, and personal growth. These can include Tier 1 and Tier 2 extracurriculars (such as student body president or state-level athletics) as well as notable awards and honors that demonstrate your interests and passions.

In sum, there is no set number of activities or awards you should aim for on the UC application. The key is to present a well-rounded picture of yourself, emphasizing the experiences and recognitions that best reflect your strengths, talents, and potential contributions to the college community. Good luck with your application!
