How do I know if I should apply for financial aid?

Hi all, I'm a high school junior and I'm starting to think about applying for financial aid. I'm not sure if I qualify or if it's worth the effort to apply. Can anyone help me understand the financial aid process and how I can determine if I should apply? Thank you!

Hi there! It's great that you're thinking about financial aid early in the process. The financial aid process can be a bit confusing, but it's important to understand your options and apply if you think you might need assistance. First, I highly recommend filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) when it becomes available in October of your senior year. The FAFSA is used to determine your eligibility for federal, state, and institutional aid, including grants, loans, and work-study. Even if you're unsure about your eligibility, it's a good idea to fill it out because there's no harm in applying, and it's free. Additionally, some colleges and universities require the CSS Profile for institutional aid, so check the financial aid requirements for each school you plan to apply to. In summary, it's definitely worth the effort to apply for financial aid, as it can open up opportunities for you to attend your preferred college at a more affordable cost. Good luck!
