How competitive is UPenn's InFocus program?

I just found out about UPenn's InFocus program where high school students can visit the campus and get an in-depth look at what the school offers. I really want to visit and experience the campus, but I'm not sure how competitive the acceptance to this program is? Can anyone help me understand? Thanks!

UPenn's InFocus program is a great opportunity for high school students from disadvantaged backgrounds to visit the campus and get a comprehensive look at the university. While the program does not guarantee admission to UPenn, it offers valuable insight into different aspects of the college experience. Visiting campus in person and attending sessions on academics, extracurriculars, and student life can help you understand whether UPenn is a good fit for you and vice versa. Additionally, it might give you a better idea of how to tailor your application when applying for admission to UPenn itself.

Acceptance into the InFocus program is selective, but not necessarily highly competitive. The admissions committee reviews students' applications, including their short essay responses and other relevant information from the application form, to identify students who demonstrate a strong interest in the university and would likely benefit from the program. While you'll definitely want to put your best foot forward in your application, given the other ways to learn more about UPenn (through tours, or your own online research), the program is not known for being outrageously difficult to get into.

Do be aware that this program is catered towards high-achieving students from low-income backgrounds, so if you come from an affluent background, you may not be accepted simply because this program is not designed for you. If you aren't the kind of student InFocus is designed for, consider taking advantage of one of the more standard ways of exploring UPenn instead.

If you are a good match for this program, however, to make your application stand out you should be sure to diligently complete all sections of the application and showcase your genuine interest in UPenn. Focus on crafting concise and engaging essay responses that highlight why you believe this program is the right opportunity for you. For example, connecting your current interests, both academic and extracurricular, to potential opportunities at UPenn can make your application more compelling.

In conclusion, while the program is selective, it is not prohibitively competitive. If you use the application process as an opportunity to reflect on your interests and articulate your excitement for the UPenn experience, you'll have a decent chance of being accepted. Good luck!
