University of California San Diego admissions requirements?

Hey everyone, I'm really interested in UC San Diego and I want to make sure my application is competitive. What are the general admissions requirements, like GPA, SAT scores, and any other important factors that I should focus on? Thanks in advance!

Hey there! UC San Diego is an excellent choice, and I'm happy to help you understand the admissions requirements so you can craft a competitive application.

1. GPA: UC San Diego typically admits students with high GPAs, usually around 4.2 or higher (weighted). The UC system has it's own method of calculating your GPA so make sure you look into that and learn to calculate your UC GPA.

2. SAT/ACT scores: UC San Diego is currently test-blind, which means they do not review standardized test scores at all as part of their admissions process.

3. A-G Coursework: The UC system requires applicants to complete the A-G subject requirements to be eligible for admission. These include 2 years of history/social science, 4 years of English, 3 years of math (4 years recommended), 2 years of lab science (3 years recommended), 2 years of a foreign language (3 years recommended), 1 year of visual or performing arts, and 1 year of a college-preparatory elective.

4. Extracurricular Activities: Like most competitive universities, UC San Diego looks for students who demonstrate involvement and leadership in a range of extracurricular activities. Aim for quality over quantity, and focus on your passions to make your application stand out. High-tier activities that showcase your dedication will resonate stronger with admissions officers.

5. Personal Insight Questions: UC application requires applicants to answer four of eight Personal Insight Questions (350-word limit each). Make sure to answer these questions thoughtfully, demonstrating your various strengths, passions, and valuable experiences. This is your opportunity to add a personal touch to your application and help admissions officers understand who you are beyond your grades and activities.

In addition to these factors, UC San Diego, like all UCs, practices a holistic review process, meaning they consider all aspects of your application. Make sure to showcase your personal growth, achievements, and dedication to the fields that interest you the most. While strong academics are important, also focus on conveying your unique story through your extracurricular involvement and Personal Insight Questions to help differentiate yourself from other applicants.

If you have further questions, you can always get in touch with the UCSD admissions team: https://admissions.ucsd.edu/contact/. Best of luck with your application!
