Colleges with Equestrian Teams: Where to apply?

Hi all! I'm an equestrian and I'd love to continue horse riding while in college. Can you guys recommend some colleges with well-established equestrian teams? Preferably ones with a good blend of academic rigor and a strong riding program. Thanks in advance!

Hi there! It's great that you're passionate about equestrianism and want to continue it in college. There are quite a few colleges that have well-established equestrian teams, and I'll list some of them below, along with their NCAA affiliation and academic standing:

1. Stanford University (NCAA Division I) – Known for excellent academics and its strong athletics program, Stanford has a competitive equestrian team in the Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association (IHSA).

2. Cornell University (NCAA Division I) – Cornell has a solid equestrian team and top-notch academics. Their team competes in the IHSA and has a history of success on a regional and national level.

3. University of Georgia (NCAA Division I) – With a strong equestrian program and good academics, the University of Georgia's equestrian team competes in the National Collegiate Equestrian Association (NCEA).

4. University of Maryland (NCAA Division I) – Apart from strong academics, their equestrian team is competitive and a member of the IHSA.

5. Mount Holyoke College (NCAA Division III) – As a prestigious liberal arts college, Mount Holyoke's equestrian team has a long-standing reputation for success. They compete in the IHSA and have won numerous regional and national titles.

6. Sweet Briar College (NCAA Division III) – Known for both its strong equestrian program and rigorous academics, Sweet Briar College has a competitive team that participates in the IHSA.

7. Berry College (NCAA Division III) – Berry College offers a solid education and a respected equestrian program. Their team competes in the IHSA.

While the colleges listed above are just a few examples, there are many other institutions with equestrian programs that balance academic rigor and a strong riding program. As you do your research, consider the size and resources of the riding facility and the success of the equestrian team. Additionally, check if the institution offers academic programs that align with your interests and career goals. Best of luck in your college search and riding endeavors!
