Calculating non-weighted GPA

Hello friends! Quick question: I know that colleges look at both weighted and non-weighted GPAs, but I'm not sure how to exactly calculate my non-weighted GPA. Can anybody help me out with the process? Thanks in advance!

Hello! I'd be happy to help you calculate your non-weighted GPA. The non-weighted GPA scale usually ranges from 0 to 4.0, with 4.0 being the highest possible score. Here's the process to calculate it:

1. Assign a numerical value to each of your letter grades for each course you've taken.

- A = 4.0

- A- = 3.7

- B+ = 3.3

- B = 3.0

- B- = 2.7

- C+ = 2.3

- C = 2.0

- C- = 1.7

- D+ = 1.3

- D = 1.0

- F = 0

2. Add up the numerical values for all of your courses. Let's call this sum "total grade points."

3. Count the total number of courses you've taken, including all subjects and semesters. This will be your "total courses."

4. Divide the total grade points by the total courses to get your non-weighted GPA. The formula will look like this:

Non-weighted GPA = Total Grade Points / Total Courses

Let me give you an example. Suppose you took 5 courses, and your grades were:

- English: A (4.0)

- History: B+ (3.3)

- Math: A- (3.7)

- Science: B- (2.7)

- Physical Education: C+ (2.3)

Total Grade Points = 4.0 + 3.3 + 3.7 + 2.7 + 2.3 = 16.0

Total Courses = 5

Non-weighted GPA = 16.0 / 5 = 3.2

In this case, your non-weighted GPA would be 3.2. Remember that how colleges interpret your GPA will depend on the specific school and how they evaluate applications. While they consider both weighted and non-weighted GPAs, they'll also look at other factors, like the rigor of your courses and overall application strength. Good luck!
