Competitive SAT scores for top colleges?

Hey y'all, I'm a junior trying to figure out a good SAT score range to aim for so I can be competitive at top colleges during application season. Any advice on what kind of scores I should be targeting?

Hi there! It's great that you're planning ahead for your SATs. To be competitive at top colleges, you'll generally want to aim for an SAT score of 1450 or higher, with a preference for scores above 1500. This range would put you in a good position to be considered by highly selective colleges.

However, keep in mind that the term "top college" can be quite broad, and each school might have slightly different expectations when it comes to SAT scores. To get a better sense of what specific colleges are looking for, research the middle 50% score range of admitted students for the schools you're interested in.

You can typically find this information on the college's admissions website or in their class profile data. Aiming for the upper end of the middle 50% range would make your application stand out even more.

But remember, while a strong SAT score can boost your chances, it's only one component of the college application. Admissions officers at top schools also consider your GPA, class rigor, extracurricular activities, essays, and letters of recommendation. Crafting a well-rounded application that highlights your unique strengths, passions, and experiences will help make you stand out.

Good luck with your SAT prep and the admissions process!
