Help with applying to UC schools

Hey guys, I'm gonna be applying to some UC schools soon. Can y'all give me a heads up on what the application process looks like? Are there any unique aspects of the UC application that I should be aware of? Thanks for the help!

Hey! Applying to UC schools is a great choice. The University of California system has its own application platform, separate from the Common App. Here's an overview of the UC application process and some unique aspects to be aware of:

1. UC Application: You'll fill out a single application for all UC schools to which you want to apply. This means that you have to select the campuses you're interested in when you complete the application, and you'll pay a separate application fee for each campus.

2. Personal Insight Questions: In the UC application, you'll need to respond to four out of eight Personal Insight Questions, with a maximum of 350 words each. These questions are different from the Common App prompts and allow the admission officers to learn more about your experiences, challenges, and aspirations. Be sure to choose the prompts that best highlight your unique attributes and help you stand out.

3. Academic History: You'll need to provide information about your high school, coursework, and grades. UC schools have specific A-G course requirements that students must meet, so make sure you're aware of these.

4. Standardized Test Scores: As of now, UC schools are test-blind and do not review SAT or ACT scores in the admissions process. Focusing on your grades and extracurriculars is key to making a strong impression.

5. Extracurriculars: On the UC application, you have space to list up to 20 extracurricular activities, which can include leadership roles, community service, work experience, internships, and more. Be sure to emphasize the impact, creativity, and commitment in each activity.

6. Letters of Recommendation: UC schools generally do not require letters of recommendation. However, some campuses may request them for specific programs or under certain circumstances – these are usually sent after the initial application has been submitted.

7. November 30th Deadline: UC applications are due by November 30th. Keep in mind that this is earlier than many regular decision deadlines for other colleges, so plan accordingly.

Overall, the UC application is pretty straightforward, but it's important to pay close attention to the unique aspects I mentioned, especially the Personal Insight Questions, A-G course requirements, and the November 30th deadline. Best of luck with your UC applications!
