Good SAT Score Range

Hey guys! I'm a junior in high school and I'm starting to study for the SAT. What range of scores would be considered 'good' for college admissions? I know it depends on the college, but anyone have an idea of what a decent or competitive score would be?

Hello! You're right that SAT scores and their importance can vary depending on the college you're applying to. However, I can give you a general idea of what constitutes a decent or competitive score.

The SAT is scored on a scale of 400-1600. A score of around 1000-1100 would be considered average, as it falls roughly around the 50th percentile. A "good" score would be in the range of 1200-1300, which puts you in the 69th to 87th percentiles. This would make you competitive for many colleges and universities, especially if you have strong grades and extracurricular activities.

"Competitive" scores would be even higher and, as a general guideline, would be in the 1400-1600 range. These scores would make you more competitive at selective and highly selective colleges. Keep in mind that a high SAT score is not a guarantee of admission, as colleges consider many different factors when evaluating applicants.

It's important to research the specific colleges you're interested in to understand what range of scores they typically look for. You can often find this information on their websites under "admissions" or "class profiles," which will show you the 25th to 75th percentile SAT scores of admitted students.

Remember, while SAT scores are an important component of your application, they are just one factor that colleges consider. Grades, extracurricular activities, essays, and recommendations also play a significant role in the admissions process. Best of luck with your SAT preparation!
