Waitlisted at Harvard advice?

Hey everyone, I just found out I was waitlisted at Harvard. While it's not an outright rejection, I'm a little disappointed. Any advice on what I can do to improve my chances of getting off the waitlist? Has anyone here ever been waitlisted and eventually got in? Share your experience, please!

First, congratulations on being waitlisted at Harvard! Although it's not an acceptance, it is still an impressive accomplishment, as many talented students apply.

To improve your chances of getting off the waitlist:

1. Write a letter of continued interest (LOCI): After a brief period (1-2 weeks), send a letter to the admissions office explicitly stating that Harvard remains your top choice and you are eager to attend if admitted. Share any new accomplishments, awards, or activities that were not on your original application. Stick to substantial updates rather than minor details.

2. Stay in touch with the admissions office: Respond promptly to any requests or communications from the admissions team. If you have any questions, reach out to your admissions officer.

3. Keep up your academic performance: The admissions team might request updated transcripts or additional academic information. Continue to perform well and show that you're maintaining a strong academic record.

4. Seek additional recommendations: If you have a new significant relationship with a teacher, coach, or mentor who has not submitted a recommendation letter for you, consider asking them to write one. This letter should provide additional insights that strengthen your application.

5. Don't overdo it: Be mindful of not overwhelming the admissions office with too much information or too many updates. Focus on the most significant and meaningful details.

While getting off the waitlist at a school like Harvard might be rare, it does happen. Remember that many factors are beyond your control, and the admissions process can be unpredictable. Consider other great colleges where you might be accepted, and keep in mind that, ultimately, it's about finding the best fit for you.

Stay positive, and best of luck!
