UChicago Deferred Acceptance Rate?

Hey guys, does anyone have any idea what the acceptance rate is like for those who get deferred from UChicago's early action/early decision? Feeling a little anxious and would like to know my chances. Thanks for any help!

Hey there! While precise statistics on deferred acceptance rates at UChicago are not publicly available, I can help give you some general insights.

Being deferred means that your application is still being considered in the regular decision pool. The admissions committee saw potential in your application, and you still have a chance at being accepted. That being said, the Regular Decision pool is typically more competitive than the Early Action pool, so your odds may be slightly lower than they were with your initial EA application.

While you wait for a final decision, take some time to reflect on your application and see if there's anything you can do to strengthen it. For example, consider updating the admissions office with any recent accomplishments, awards, or extracurricular activities you've been involved in since you submitted your application. If your grades have improved or you have new test scores, make sure to report those as well. And you'll also want to reaffirm your strong desire to attend UChicago. You can hit all these points in a letter of continued interest (LOCI) - you can read more about how to write a strong one on CollegeVine's blog: https://blog.collegevine.com/deferred-or-waitlisted-tips-for-writing-a-letter-of-continued-interest.

Remember that UChicago, like many other top schools, has a holistic admissions process. The deferred acceptance rate may vary each year depending on the applicant pool and any school-specific priorities in creating a balanced incoming class. While the odds might seem tougher after a deferral, demonstrating your dedication and sharing updates on your academic progress can potentially make a difference.

Stay positive and continue to focus on your strengths. Good luck!
