UChicago Deferred

So, I just got deferred from UChicago EA. Does anyone know what the chances are of being accepted after deferral? Is there anything I can do to improve my chances during the RD round?

I understand that being deferred can be disappointing, but don't lose hope! The chances of getting accepted after being deferred vary each year, depending on the applicant pool, and UChicago doesn't release specific statistics. However, you can still take steps to improve your chances during the Regular Decision round.

1. Write a Letter of Continued Interest (LOCI): This is an opportunity for you to express your continued enthusiasm for UChicago, update them on any new accomplishments or extracurricular activities since submitting your application, and reiterate why UChicago is a good fit for you. Be genuine and sincere, and make sure not to come across as entitled or desperate.

2. Enhance your application: If you've had any significant achievements or undertaken new activities since submitting your application, be sure to update the admissions office. This can include improved grades, awards, or new leadership positions.

3. Request additional strong letters of recommendation: Although not required, you may consider asking someone who can speak to your growth, accomplishments, or personal qualities since you submitted your application to write an additional letter of recommendation on your behalf. Be sure to request these judiciously to avoid overwhelming the admissions office.

4. Demonstrate interest: Attending virtual events or an online information session can help show your interest in UChicago. Be sure to engage in these sessions by asking thoughtful questions and expressing your enthusiasm for the school.

Remember that the deferral simply means UChicago wants to take another look at your application during the Regular Decision round. Use this opportunity to strengthen your application and demonstrate your continued passion for the school. By taking these steps, you might be able to improve your chances of eventual acceptance. Good luck!
