Submitting teacher recommendation letters

Hey everyone, I'm trying to figure out the college application process. Can someone tell me how my teachers are supposed to send their letters of recommendation? Do they use the Common App or some other platform? Thanks in advance!

Hi there! Good question. When it comes to submitting teacher recommendation letters, the process is usually pretty straightforward. In most cases, your teachers will submit their letters through the application platform you are using (such as the Common App, Coalition App, or a school-specific application system).

Here's a quick breakdown of the process for the Common App:

1. As part of your application, you'll be asked to invite your recommenders using the "Recommenders and FERPA" section. You'll need to provide their name, email, and some other basic information.

2. Your teachers will receive an email with a secure link inviting them to create an account and upload their recommendation letter.

3. Once they've submitted their letter, you'll be able to see that it has been completed, but you won't be able to read the actual content of the letter.

Some schools might use other platforms, or possibly request letters to be mailed or emailed directly. Be sure to check the specific requirements for each of your colleges to make certain you're following their preferred submission method.

Also, don't forget to give your teachers ample time to write a thoughtful recommendation letter (at least one month before the deadline). It's always a good idea to provide them with a resume or a list of accomplishments, so they have a better understanding of your strengths and achievements when writing the letter.

Best of luck with your college applications!
