Cal Poly Pomona Sports

I'm looking into Cal Poly Pomona and wanted to learn more about their sports scene. Which sports do they excel in or have great team spirit? Are there any big sporting events or traditions on-campus?

Cal Poly Pomona is a member of NCAA Division II and participates in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). They offer 10 varsity sports, including men's sports like baseball, basketball, cross country, soccer, and track & field, as well as women's sports such as basketball, cross country, soccer, track & field, and volleyball.

One of the most notable sports programs at Cal Poly Pomona is the men's basketball team, which has a history of success, winning a national championship in 2010. Similarly, the women's basketball team has been consistently strong, with multiple NCAA Tournament appearances. The men's soccer team is another successful program on campus. Overall, Cal Poly Pomona's athletic teams have impressive records, and they often compete for conference championships.

Though the sports scene at Cal Poly Pomona may not be as prominent as that of larger Division I universities, there is still a sense of school pride and camaraderie, with students supporting their fellow Broncos at various games and events. Some of the biggest sporting events on campus would be rival games against nearby schools or playoff games. Keep in mind that the level of team spirit and tradition will vary depending on the sport and the individual team's successes in a particular season.

In addition to varsity sports, Cal Poly Pomona offers club sports and intramural programs, which can be a great way for students to participate in the sports they enjoy or try new activities while building friendships and staying active. Intramurals can range from more traditional sports like soccer and basketball to more unique offerings, catering to a diverse range of interests and skill levels.
