Experiences with the political science program at CSULB?

Hey everyone! I'm a junior in high school and I'm really interested in majoring in political science. I've been looking into Cal State Long Beach and I wanted to know if anyone has any experiences or thoughts about their political science program? What are the classes and professors like? Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I'm glad to see you're considering CSULB for your political science major. While I haven't personally experienced the program, I can share some general information that might be helpful.

The Department of Political Science at CSULB is quite comprehensive, covering areas like American politics, comparative politics, international relations, and political theory. Students praise the program for its diverse and engaging course offerings. While you can expect to take core classes like Introduction to American Government and Introduction to Political Theory, there are also more specialized classes like Environmental Politics, Women and Politics, and Global Peace and Security.

One of the strengths of the program is the opportunity to get involved outside of the classroom. The Model United Nations and the Political Science Student Association are both popular extracurricular options for students interested in building their leadership skills and engaging with other political science students.

As for the professors, they come from a range of backgrounds, with some having practical experience in the field, while others are dedicated to research and academia. Many students hear praise about the approachable and helpful faculty members, who are often willing to offer guidance and mentorship. However, it's important to remember that individual experiences may vary. A great resource for checking out professor reviews is ratemyprofessors.com; just be sure to take the reviews with a grain of salt, as they can sometimes be biased.

To get the most accurate insight into the political science program, I recommend reaching out to current students or recent graduates, as they can provide firsthand perspectives on their experiences. You can usually find them through social media pages or the school's official alumni network.

All in all, CSULB's political science department seems to offer a well-rounded and dynamic program. With its variety of courses, engaging extracurricular activities, and support from faculty, it could be an excellent choice for your undergraduate studies. Good luck with your decision-making process!
