Occupational therapy programs in PA?

Hey everyone, I'm a junior in high school and starting to research potential OT programs. Are there any good Occupational Therapy programs in Pennsylvania that I should look into? Also, if any current OT students or alumni are available, I'd love to hear a bit about your experiences in OT school in PA!

Hello! It's great to see that you're interested in Occupational Therapy programs. Pennsylvania is home to several reputable OT programs that you might want to consider. Here are a few noteworthy options:

1. University of Pittsburgh: Their OT program is highly ranked nationally and offers a Bachelor's to Master's accelerated track, as well as a Master of Occupational Therapy (MOT) program. Their coursework focuses on both theory and hands-on experience through fieldwork.

2. Thomas Jefferson University: This institution offers an entry-level Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD) program, which combines classroom learning with experiential components. The program emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration.

3. Temple University: Temple provides an entry-level pre-professional BS program that transitions into a Master of Occupational Therapy program. The program is designed to educate occupational therapy leaders who will be prepared for evidence-based and client-centered practice.

4. Misericordia University: Misericordia offers a 4 + 2.5 year undergraduate program, followed by a post-graduate masters (MOT) that prepares students for their NBCOT board certification and PA licensure. Their curriculum is focused on promoting health and wellbeing through occupation and includes fieldwork experiences.

5. Duquesne University: Duquesne's OT program offers a 5-year Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences (BSHS)/Master of Occupational Therapy (MOT) combined degree, including two semesters of supervised fieldwork.

These are just a few examples of OT programs available in Pennsylvania. I suggest exploring each of the universities' websites for more information on prerequisites, curriculum, and opportunities for students.

Although I'm not an OT student or alumni, many who have pursued the field in PA have reported positive experiences. They mention strong faculty support, research opportunities, and well-structured programs that inspire a passion for the OT profession. Additionally, the hands-on nature of fieldwork experiences typically offered to students helps solidify their understanding of the career and its impact on clients. It's always helpful to connect with current students or alumni if you can. They can provide insights into the program that might not be apparent on university websites.

Good luck with your research, and I hope this information helps steer you toward a suitable OT program in Pennsylvania!
