NC State computer science program?

Hey everyone, I'm highly interested in computer science and I'm considering applying to NCSU. Can anybody provide information on the program's ranking and details about internship opportunities, resources, and overall experience?

Sure! North Carolina State University (NC State) has a strong Computer Science program, which is part of the College of Engineering. The program is consistently ranked among the top 50 computer science programs in the United States. While rankings fluctuate, you can generally expect to find it in the 40-50 range for undergraduate programs.

Regarding internship opportunities, NC State is located in Raleigh, which is part of the Research Triangle area. This location puts the campus in close proximity to numerous tech companies and research institutions, such as IBM, Cisco, SAS Institute, Red Hat, and more. Many students secure internships and co-op positions locally as well as with national and international companies. The program's curriculum is designed to provide strong theoretical foundations while emphasizing hands-on experience and collaboration, which helps prepare students for internships and careers in the field.

In terms of resources, the Computer Science department offers cutting-edge research facilities, such as the Center for Educational Informatics, the Secure Computing Institute, and the Data-Intensive Scalable Computing Laboratory, among others. As an undergraduate student, you may have opportunities to participate in research projects with faculty in various areas of computer science, including artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data science, and more.

The overall experience in the NC State Computer Science program is highly regarded by alumni and current students. They often mention the dedicated faculty, strong networking opportunities, and extensive resources as major positive factors. The program also has a variety of student organizations focused on computer science, such as the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and Women in Computer Science (WiCS), which allow students to connect and collaborate on projects outside of the classroom.

Finally, a big advantage of studying at NC State is the university's strong connections to industry partners both locally and nationally. The Engineering Career Fair held twice a year on campus is one of the largest in the nation and provides an excellent opportunity for computer science students to connect with potential employers for internships, co-ops, and full-time positions.

Overall, NC State's Computer Science program offers a strong education, excellent resources, and access to numerous opportunities for internships and career advancement, making it an excellent choice for someone interested in pursuing a degree in this field.
