Chemistry graduate program rankings

I'm a junior and I'm really passionate about chemistry. Although it's a bit early, I want to start researching and planning for grad school. Does anyone have a source or info on the ranking of chemistry graduate programs in the US?

It's great that you're already thinking about your options for graduate school in chemistry! When it comes to rankings, the most reputable source is the U.S. News & World Report, which ranks graduate programs in various fields, including chemistry, on a regular basis. While rankings can certainly serve as a useful starting point, I would encourage you to also consider things like faculty research interests, program size, department culture, location, and available resources when making your decision.

Here is a (non-exhaustive) list of some top-ranked chemistry graduate programs according to the latest U.S. News rankings:

1. California Institute of Technology (Caltech)

2. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)

3. Stanford University

4. Harvard University

5. University of California—Berkeley

6. University of Chicago

7. Northwestern University

8. University of California—Los Angeles (UCLA)

9. University of Michigan—Ann Arbor

10. Columbia University

As you start to research and gather information, I would recommend checking out each university's chemistry department website to learn more about their programs, faculty, and facilities. Additionally, try reaching out to current graduate students at those programs to gain insight into the culture, workload, and opportunities associated with each program. It's important to find a program that's not only highly-ranked but also aligns with your research interests, goals, and preferences.

Finally, don't forget to also consider factors like funding and financial support, as graduate students are often eligible for stipends, fellowships, or assistantships that can help make pursuing an advanced degree more accessible. Keep in mind that the application process for graduate school is different from undergraduate admissions, with more emphasis on research experience, letters of recommendation, and your goals in the field, so make sure to plan ahead and prepare accordingly.

Best of luck on your journey in the world of chemistry!
