How do I ask for strong letters of recommendation?

Hi everyone! I'm starting to think about who I should ask for letters of recommendation, but I'm not sure how to approach them. What's the best way to ask my teachers to write a strong letter for me? I want to make sure they have enough time and information to write something that will really help my application. Thanks for your help!

Hello! It's great that you're thinking ahead about your letters of recommendation. From my experience with my child's college applications, here are a few tips to help you out:

1. Choose teachers who know you well and have a positive impression of you. It's ideal to ask those who have taught you in subjects related to your intended major or have seen your work ethic and dedication.

2. Give your teachers plenty of notice, at least a month in advance. This will provide them enough time to write a thoughtful and strong recommendation letter.

3. Provide them with a 'brag sheet' or a summary of your accomplishments, extracurricular activities, goals, and why you're interested in the colleges you're applying to. This will help them tailor their letter to showcase your strengths and highlight your fit for the schools.

4. Approach your teachers in person if possible and be polite and respectful while asking. Express your gratitude and explain why you think they would be the best person to write your recommendation.

I hope these tips help you! Good luck with your college applications!
