Georgetown diversity?

I've been on the hunt for colleges and Georgetown is one of my top choices. But I'm big on diversity and I've heard mixed things about it at Georgetown. Can someone give me a clearer picture of the diversity at Georgetown?

Georgetown University prides itself on being an inclusive and diverse institution, but it's essential to know what kind of diversity you're seeking. Here are some key points to consider about diversity at Georgetown:

1. Racial and ethnic diversity: According to Georgetown's 2022-2023 undergraduate student demographics, the racial and ethnic breakdown is as follows: 47% White, 6.7% Hispanic/Latino, 13.2% Asian, 4.8% Black or African American, 5.7% other races/ethnicities, 8.4% unknown, and 14% international students. While the university strives to increase racial and ethnic diversity, it's important to note that the environment may vary based on individual experiences, personal backgrounds, and expectations.

2. Socioeconomic diversity: Georgetown has made significant efforts to increase socioeconomic diversity on campus through need-based financial aid. They are need-blind for US citizens, permanent residents, and DACA/undocumented students, and they guarantee to meet 100% of the demonstrated financial need for admitted students. However, Georgetown is known to have a high concentration of students from affluent backgrounds, which can shape the overall campus culture.

3. International diversity: International students comprise about 14% of the undergraduate population, representing more than 130 countries. This global mix brings various perspectives and cultures to the campus, enriching the academic and social experiences for all students.

4. Intellectual diversity: Georgetown offers a wide array of academic programs, and students pursue diverse interests across several colleges (Georgetown College, McDonough School of Business, School of Foreign Service, and School of Nursing & Health Studies). This leads to a vibrant intellectual community, encouraging dialogue on various topics among individuals with different viewpoints.

5. Georgetown is a Jesuit institution, open and welcoming to students of all faiths. You'll find a variety of religious and spiritual life resources on campus, emphasizing the university's commitment to the development of the whole person.

Ultimately, campus diversity depends on the specific factors important to you. While Georgetown makes efforts to foster an inclusive environment, it's vital to visit the campus (if possible) and connect with current students to get a better sense of the community and understand how well you'll fit in.
