Hey y'all, I'm considering attending Fisk University and was wondering about their athletic programs. Are they part of Division 1 in the NCAA? If not, what division do they belong to? Thanks!
Fisk University is not a part of Division 1 in the NCAA. They compete in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), primarily within the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC). The NAIA is a separate athletics association from the NCAA, which features colleges and universities that often place a greater emphasis on academics and may have smaller athletic budgets compared to NCAA institutions.
While the level of competition may not be as high as NCAA Division 1, NAIA athletic programs still offer solid opportunities for student-athletes to develop their skills and enjoy their collegiate athletic experience, so don't rule out Fisk straight away. Look into the teams you might be interested in joining or supporting, to get a sense of how competitive they are, and don't hesitate to reach out to the coaching staff directly if you have any questions. It's definitely still possible to have athletics be a big part of your college experience at an NAIA school!
