UPenn Tuition Benefit for Employees?

I heard that the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) offers a tuition benefit for employees. Does anyone have more information about this program? What are the eligibility requirements and how does the application process work?

The University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) does indeed offer tuition benefits for its employees. This program helps to fund education for qualified employees and their family members, covering tuition costs for both undergraduate and graduate programs.

Eligibility requirements for employees:

- Regular full-time staff members and faculty who have completed at least six months of service at the time of application are eligible.

- Full-time employees in a benefits-eligible position may receive up to two undergraduate or graduate course units per academic term.

- In order to maintain the benefit, you must continue to work at UPenn at least 20 hours per week.

Eligibility requirements for spouses and children:

- The employee must be a regular full-time staff member or faculty who has completed three years of service at the time of application.

- Eligible family members can receive tuition assistance for undergraduate degree programs at UPenn only.

- For spouses, 50% of tuition costs will be covered. For children, up to 75% of the cost of tuition may be covered, as long as they are claimed as dependents for tax purposes.

Application process:

1. To apply for the tuition benefit, visit the Penn HR website to access the online Tuition Benefit Management System.

2. You must submit an application for each academic term you wish to receive the tuition benefit.

3. Make sure to apply before the tuition deadline each term, which is typically the first day of the term. Applications submitted after this date may not be processed.

Keep in mind that the tuition benefit will be taxed according to applicable IRS regulations. It's important to read the UPenn website and TUITION BENEFIT POLICY to fully understand all the requirements, restrictions, and taxation implications associated with the program before applying.
