Opinions on the psychology program at CSU Northridge?

Hey everyone, I'm a high school junior very interested in majoring in psychology. I was wondering if anybody could tell me about the psychology program at CSU Northridge? Are there any cool research opportunities or anything unique about the program?

I've heard that CSU Northridge has a solid psychology program that offers a range of courses and opportunities for its students. The Psychology Department at CSUN has several areas of specialization available, such as clinical, cognitive, developmental, and social psychology, which allows you to study various aspects of the field, depending on your interests.

As for research opportunities, the department has numerous faculty-led research labs where undergraduate students can get involved. Students can assist faculty with their research projects and even develop their own independent research. Participation in these labs can provide valuable hands-on experience, develop essential research skills, and help build connections with faculty who can later write recommendation letters for graduate school or job applications.

Moreover, CSUN has an active chapter of Psi Chi, the international honor society in psychology. CSUN's psychology student organizations hold events and workshops focused on academic success, networking, career development, and research presentations—which can be particularly useful when pursuing opportunities post-graduation or considering further education.

In summary, CSU Northridge's psychology program has a strong foundation of courses and specializations, plenty of research opportunities with faculty-led labs, and the support of extracurricular organizations Psi Chi. This combination can provide you with a well-rounded undergraduate experience in psychology while preparing you for future career or academic pursuits. Good luck with your college search!
