UW Milwaukee Engineering: How good is it?

Hey everyone! I'm considering UW Milwaukee for engineering as one of my college options. Can anyone share their thoughts on the engineering program at UW Milwaukee? Is it well-regarded and what kind of opportunities are available? Thanks in advance!

Hi there! UW Milwaukee's College of Engineering & Applied Science is a solid choice for engineering, particularly if you're looking for a more urban setting and smaller class sizes compared to larger schools such as UW Madison. They offer undergraduate degree programs in multiple disciplines, including civil, computer, electrical, industrial, and mechanical engineering, as well as materials science and engineering.

The engineering program at UW Milwaukee is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, which certifies the quality and rigor of the curriculum. Additionally, the college has strong ties with local businesses and industries, which can open up networking and internship opportunities for students.

Many engineering students at UW Milwaukee also participate in student organizations, such as the Society of Automotive Engineers, the American Society of Civil Engineers, and the Society of Women Engineers, which provide project-based and collaborative opportunities that allow them to build upon what they're learning in the classroom, through hands-on experience that will help them prepare for their future engineering careers.

One unique feature of UW Milwaukee's engineering program is the co-op program, which allows students to work paid, full-time jobs while earning academic credit. Students who participate in the co-op program alternate semesters between working and taking classes, which not only improves their practical skills but may also help them secure full-time employment after graduation, through connections they make during their co-op.

While it may not be as well-known as some larger schools, UW Milwaukee still offers a quality engineering education and valuable opportunities for students who take advantage of them. Make sure to visit the campus and speak with current students and faculty to get a better sense of what the program has to offer and if it's the right fit for you, personally as well as academically. Good luck!
