Psychology program at Columbia?

Hi everyone, I'm a junior in high school and I'm really interested in pursuing a degree in psychology. I heard Columbia is a great school, but does anyone know if their psychology program is particularly strong? Thanks for any input!

Columbia University does indeed have a strong psychology program, which offers a comprehensive education in the field! As an Ivy League institution, Columbia is well-regarded for its overall academic excellence and resources. The Department of Psychology at Columbia is no exception, and has a rich history which includes groundbreaking research and well-known faculty members.

The psychology program offers both a major and a concentration, which provides flexibility if you want to explore other disciplines alongside your psychology pursuits. Furthermore, you can choose from different subfields within psychology for a more focused path, such as cognitive, social, developmental, or abnormal psychology.

One highlight of Columbia's psychology program is its strong research focus. As an undergraduate student, you'll have opportunities to engage in research projects alongside faculty members, either through the department's own research labs or through affiliated research centers. This can be a superb experience if you plan to pursue a Ph.D. or a career in research.

Columbia’s location in New York City also provides ample opportunities for internships and practical experiences, such as working with non-profit organizations, schools, government agencies, or private companies. Additionally, NYC's multicultural environment gives you the chance to explore diverse perspectives in psychology and apply your knowledge in real-world settings.

In summary, Columbia University's psychology program is well-regarded and offers excellent research opportunities, alongside a wide range of practical experiences, which makes it an excellent choice for students interested in pursuing a degree in psychology.
