CSU Fresno Social Work program?

Hey guys, curious junior here. I'm considering applying to CSU Fresno's Social Work program next year. Can anybody share their experiences with the program? How are the classes, the professors, and the internship opportunities there? Thanks in advance!

Hey there! While I can't speak from personal experience, I do have some insights into the Social Work program at CSU Fresno. The Bachelor of Arts in Social Work (BASW) program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education and prepares students for entry-level generalist social work practice. The program emphasizes critical thinking, ethical decision making, and strong communication skills.

In terms of classes, the curriculum covers a wide range of subjects, including human behavior, social policy, research methods, and social work practice. The program is designed to provide a solid theoretical foundation, integrated with applied learning experiences, so you'll have opportunities to do case studies, group projects, and engage in class discussions. As with any college program, the quality of professors can vary, but overall, the faculty at CSU Fresno are reportedly knowledgeable and genuinely interested in students' growth and success.

As for internships, the Social Work program requires students to complete a field practicum during their senior year. This practicum allows you to gain hands-on experience in a social work agency under the supervision of a trained professional. The field education office works closely with students to match them with an appropriate agency and provides ongoing support throughout the internship. This invaluable experience not only helps you build up your resume but also lets you see what it's like to work in a real-world setting, which can make a difference when seeking employment after graduation.

In summary, the Social Work program at CSU Fresno offers students a strong academic foundation paired with practical experience through the required field practicum. The curriculum appears well-rounded, with dedicated faculty who are invested in your development. Make sure to research further into the program and reach out to current students or alumni on platforms like LinkedIn to get a more personal perspective on their experiences. Best of luck!
