Is a 900 SAT score competitive?

Hey everyone, I just got my SAT scores back and it's a 900. I'm not sure if this is a good score or not. Any advice on how I should proceed? Are there colleges I can still apply to with this score?

A 900 SAT score is considered below average, as the current SAT scale ranges from 400 to 1600, and the average score falls around 1060. However, that doesn't mean you can't apply to colleges with a 900 SAT score. You should focus on finding colleges whose median SAT scores are in your range or offer test-optional admissions policies.

Many colleges and universities have adopted test-optional and test-flexible admissions policies, meaning that they don't require SAT scores as part of the application. Additionally, some less selective schools may accept scores in the 900 range. Doing some research into admission requirements will help you find institutions that are a good fit for your SAT score.

To improve your chances of admission, focus on other aspects of your application. Highlight your unique strengths, such as extracurricular engagement, leadership roles, community service, your academic record, and your essays. College admissions committees are interested in well-rounded applicants, so presenting a strong application in other areas can help offset a lower SAT score.

If you're not satisfied with your score and want to improve it, consider retaking the SAT. There are several test dates throughout the year, and with the right preparation, such as courses, tutoring, or self-study, you may be able to boost your score.

Regardless of your score, it's crucial to apply to a range of colleges ("safety," "match," and "reach" schools) to give yourself the best chances of receiving multiple acceptances. Overall, while a 900 SAT score may not be competitive for more selective colleges, there are still options available to you.
