Hey guys, I've been looking into Saginaw Valley State and wanted to know more about their athletic programs. What division do they compete in for varsity sports? Does anyone have any experience with their athletic programs?
Saginaw Valley State University competes in NCAA Division II for varsity sports. They are a part of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC), which consists of universities primarily located in Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana. SVSU offers a variety of sports for both men and women, including basketball, soccer, softball, baseball, track & field, cross country, golf, swimming, and more.
Although I don't have personal experience with their athletic programs, many student-athletes at Division II schools enjoy a balance between academics and athletics, as competing at the DII level allows them to excel in both areas, compared to DI programs which require a significant investment in athletics that can necessitate sacrifices in other areas.
If you're considering attending SVSU and participating in their athletic programs, I'd recommend reaching out to the coaches of the team(s) you're interested in, to learn more about the specific sport's expectations and team culture, as well as the opportunities available for student-athletes at SVSU as a whole. Additionally, you can explore their athletic department website to find more information about schedules, team statistics, and any accomplishments or awards the teams have earned in recent years. Best of luck with your college search, and go Cardinals!
