Georgia Tech Requirements

Hi everyone! I've been considering applying to Georgia Tech, but I'm a little stressed about what their requirements are. Can someone help me understand what GPA and extracurriculars they're looking for?

Sure! Georgia Tech is a highly competitive school, and while they don't have hard set minimum GPA or extracurricular requirements, having a strong academic and extracurricular profile will definitely help increase your chances of getting admitted.

For GPA, admitted students typically have a high unweighted GPA, usually falling between 3.8 and 4.0 on a 4.0 scale. Georgia Tech also considers the rigor of your high school course load, including AP and IB courses, as taking challenging classes shows your ability to handle college-level work.

Extracurriculars play an important role as well, especially ones highlighting your interests and achievements in STEM. Georgia Tech values students with a focused "spike" or highly-developed specialty in their field of interest, which will set them apart from even other highly qualified applicants. Aim for a few Tier 1 or Tier 2 level extracurricular activities (you can read more about extracurricular tiers on CollegeVine's blog: https://blog.collegevine.com/breaking-down-the-4-tiers-of-extracurricular-activities) to make your application stand out. Examples include research, internships, involvement in competitive clubs like robotics, Science Olympiad, or coding competitions, or significant leadership roles in school organizations.

Keep in mind that there are other aspects of your application that are considered, such as essays, letters of recommendation, and standardized test scores (note that, while many schools are still test-optional, Georgia Tech is once again requiring all applicants to submit the SAT or ACT). Your essays should be well-written and showcase your personality, motivation, and passion for your intended major. For guidance on how to tackle Georgia Tech's school-specific prompt(s) in particular, check out this blog post from CollegeVine: https://blog.collegevine.com/how-to-write-the-georgia-tech-essays/.

Overall, while Georgia Tech doesn't have official requirements, aiming for a high GPA and a strong set of extracurriculars related to your field of interest will help improve your chances for admission. Make sure to present a well-rounded application that highlights your strengths, accomplishments, and genuine interest in Georgia Tech. Best of luck!
