Best fine arts schools to consider?

Hey guys, I'm an aspiring artist and I'm looking at colleges with strong fine arts programs. I know of some like RISD and CalArts, but I'd love to hear more suggestions. Can you recommend any top fine art schools in the US that I should look into? Thanks a lot!

Hi there! It's fantastic that you're passionate about the fine arts, and I'm happy to help in your search. In addition to RISD and CalArts, which you've already mentioned, there are several other noteworthy schools with strong fine arts programs. Here are some suggestions to consider:

1. School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) - Offering a wide range of disciplines, such as painting, drawing, sculpture, architecture, fashion, photography, and many more.

2. New York University (NYU) - The Tisch School of the Arts, as well as the Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development, both offer several programs in various art disciplines, and students get to benefit from being in the very heart of New York City, one of the art capitals of the world.

3. Pratt Institute - Offers strong programs in areas like painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, and more, in addition to being located in Brooklyn, an area with a vibrant arts scene, as well as easy access to the world-famous resources of Manhattan.

4. Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) - Known for programs in painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, and several other disciplines.

5. Carnegie Mellon University - The School of Art combines traditional studio disciplines with interdisciplinary and new media practices.

6. Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) - Offers programs in various disciplines, such as painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, sculpture, and ceramics, among others.

7. Massachusetts College of Art and Design (MassArt) - Public institution offering a wide range of fine art programs, in areas including animation, glass, sculpture, and more.

8. Yale University - Known primarily for its graduate offerings through the highly reputable Yale School of Art, which offers degrees in painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, and graphic design. However, if you take initiative, you may be able to take advantage of some of the graduate-level resources even as an undergrad.

Remember to research each institution thoroughly and consider factors like the size of the school, location, available facilities, and the overall vibe of the campus while making your decision. Visiting campuses and speaking with current students or faculty can also help you get a better understanding of the school's culture and atmosphere. Ultimately, you want to be sure you choose a school where you'll thrive personally as well as artistically.

Finally, if you're looking for ways to pursue your passion for the arts while still in high school, and polish up your college profile while you're at it, check out this blog post from CollegeVine, which lists a range of summer programs in the arts for high schoolers: https://blog.collegevine.com/high-school-art-summer-programs/.
