What subjects are tested on the SAT?

I'm starting to prep for the SAT, and I was wondering what subjects are actually tested on the exam? Are there specific topics within each subject that I should focus on during my preparation? Thanks in advance!

The SAT is divided into two main sections: Evidence-Based Reading and Writing, and Math. Let me break down the subjects and topics that are tested within these sections.

1. Evidence-Based Reading and Writing: This section is further divided into two parts - the Reading Test and the Writing and Language Test.

a. Reading Test: In this section, you'll encounter passages from literary works, history/social studies, and science. The focus is on reading comprehension, and questions will assess your ability to understand the main ideas, draw inferences, determine the author's purpose, analyze how authors develop their ideas, evaluate the use of evidence, and interpret words and phrases in context.

b. Writing and Language Test: This section consists of passages with errors and areas for improvement. Questions will focus on understanding the context, revising and editing the text, improving sentence structure, coherence, punctuation, grammar, and usage. You'll need to spot and fix errors, improve coherence, and make text more concise and clear.

2. Math: The Math section is divided into two subsections: one that permits the use of a calculator, and one that does not.

a. Heart of Algebra: This topic covers linear equations, systems of linear equations, and inequalities. You'll need to solve, interpret, and create these algebraic expressions.

b. Problem Solving and Data Analysis: This topic focuses on quantitative reasoning, using ratios, percentages, proportions, and analyzing and interpreting data from tables, graphs, and scatterplots.

c. Passport to Advanced Math: This topic covers non-linear expressions, including quadratic, polynomial, rational, exponential, and logarithmic functions, with a focus on expressions, equations, and inequalities.

d. Additional Topics in Math: This small portion of the test covers geometry, trigonometry, and complex numbers.

As you can see, the SAT tests a broad range of subjects and skills, primarily centered around reading comprehension, writing, and mathematics. To adequately prepare for the test, focus on these areas, practice with authentic SAT materials, and review concepts that you find challenging.
