Hey peeps! I'm interested in criminal justice and thinking about applying to UCSD. I'm not sure if they have a criminal justice program or something similar, though. Can anyone shed some light on this for me? Also, if possible, your thoughts on the quality of the program, if applicable. Thanks in advance!
Hello! UCSD does not have a specific Criminal Justice program, but they do offer a related major called Law and Society. This program focuses on the interdisciplinary study of the causes, consequences, and prevention of crime, as well as the institutions and processes of social control pertaining to the criminal justice system. The Law and Society major covers topics such as the criminal justice system, social inequality, law and social control, and urban risks and policing.
While I can't provide any personal experiences, I've heard from students who study in this field that they appreciate the interdisciplinary nature of the Law and Society major at UCSD, as it allows them to explore multiple perspectives associated with crime, law, and society. It's worth noting that UCSD as a whole is a well-regarded institution, and its social science programs in particular tend to be strong as well.
If you're interested in this major, I'd recommend checking out the UCSD Law and Society website to explore the courses they offer, as well as potential research and internship opportunities that it might provide. Additionally, you can look into the faculty members associated with the program to get an idea of their areas of expertise and research interests, which could give you an even better understanding of the program's quality.
