Urban Planning at ASU

Has anyone here studied or knows someone who studied urban planning at Arizona State University? I'm curious about the program and what the coursework and internship opportunities are like. Any insight would be great!

I've heard from students who have gone through the Urban Planning program at Arizona State University, and the general consensus is that it's a solid program. The coursework is diverse, covering topics like land use, transportation, community development, urban design, and sustainability. This well-rounded curriculum helps students understand the various aspects of urban planning and prepares them for careers in the field.

ASU's School of Geographical Sciences & Urban Planning also places a strong emphasis on practical experience. Students are encouraged to participate in internships and research projects, and the school hosts an annual Urban Planning Internship Fair to connect students with potential employers. There are numerous opportunities for internships locally in the Phoenix area, as well as opportunities with national and international organizations. Many students have found internships with city planning departments, private consulting firms, and non-profit organizations, among other options.

In addition to coursework and internships, the program stresses the importance of networking and involvement in professional organizations, such as the American Planning Association (APA) – a resource that can help students connect with both professionals and fellow students who share their interests.

Of course, every student's experience will be unique, so I recommend reaching out to current students or recent alumni of the program to get an even better sense of what it's like. You could also explore ASU's website and look into contacting the faculty members teaching in the program to learn more about the courses they teach and their areas of expertise. You can find the Urban Planning page here: https://degrees.apps.asu.edu/bachelors/major/ASU00/ARPUPBSP/urban-planning?init=false&nopassive=true. You can view the program description, hear about career opportunities, and explore program learning outcomes. I hope this helps you in your research!
