UC Santa Cruz Football Team?

Hey folks, I'm seriously considering attending UC Santa Cruz and was wondering if they have a football team on campus. As a big football fan, I'd love to be able to cheer on my school during my college years. Any info would be super helpful! Thanks!

Hey there! UC Santa Cruz does not have a football team. They have several other sports teams, but unfortunately, football is not one of them. The school's athletic teams, known as the Banana Slugs, participate in a variety of sports, including basketball, soccer, volleyball, and more, within NCAA Division III.

Even though UCSC doesn't have a football team, the campus offers a great environment and demonstrates school spirit in other ways. You can join and root for the other sports teams they have, or check out some high school football games in the area if you're really craving some football action. You could even make the drive (about 1.5 hours) up to San Francisco to catch some 49ers games!

Additionally, there are plenty of clubs and recreational sports that you can participate in to fulfill your athletic interests. Or, think about setting up your own intramural or community-based flag football league. While it might not be the same as cheering on a college football team, there are still many ways to connect with the sport and enjoy athletics as a whole at UC Santa Cruz.

If you end up applying to UC Santa Cruz, despite their lack of a football team, check out this blog post from CollegeVine, which breaks down how to tackle their application essays: https://blog.collegevine.com/how-to-write-the-university-of-california-essays/. Good luck with your college process!
