Hey guys, I'm a high school junior, and sports are a big part of my life. I've been looking into UC Davis for college, but I want to learn more about their sports teams. Can anyone fill me in on what type of sports they have, and if they're Division I, II, or III? Are there opportunities to participate or join teams even if you're not an elite athlete? Thanks!
UC Davis is a Division I college within the NCAA and a member of the Big West Conference. They offer an extensive range of varsity sports, including both men's and women's teams. Some of the sports offered include basketball, baseball, soccer, water polo, track & field, swimming, golf, tennis, and many more. Additionally, UC Davis' equestrian, field hockey, and gymnastics teams compete outside of the Big West Conference but are still considered Division I.
Apart from varsity sports, UC Davis also has club sports and intramural sports, which are great opportunities for students who aren't necessarily elite athletes but want to continue participating in sports for fun and fitness. Club sports are slightly more competitive than intramural sports, often compete against other schools, and might require tryouts for participation. Intramural sports are recreational and organized within the university, providing a more relaxed and inclusive atmosphere for students who want to play sports with fellow students. Both options allow students to engage in sports without making the full commitment of a varsity team.
As you're doing research, I recommend checking out UC Davis' Athletics website for up-to-date information on their varsity sports programs. If you're interested in club or intramural sports, the Campus Recreation and Unions website is an excellent resource for an overview of offerings and available sports. You can also connect with current students through campus visits, virtual events, or online forums to learn about their experiences participating in sports at UC Davis. Good luck!
