Eligibility for an ACT test waiver

Hi, I heard that you can get an ACT test fee waiver if you meet certain criteria. Does anyone know what those criteria are or how I can apply for it? Thanks for any guidance you can provide!

Sure, I can help explain the criteria and application process for an ACT test fee waiver. To be eligible for an ACT test fee waiver, you need to meet the following requirements:

1. Be enrolled in high school in the 11th or 12th grade.

2. Be testing in the United States, US territories, or Puerto Rico.

3. Meet one or more of the following indicators of economic need:

- Be enrolled in a federal free or reduced-price lunch program, based on USDA income levels.

- Be enrolled in a program that aids students from economically disadvantaged families (e.g., Upward Bound).

- Reside in a foster home, be a ward of the state, or be homeless.

- Be part of a family that receives low-income public assistance or lives in federally subsidized public housing.

- Be part of a family whose total annual income is at or below USDA levels for free or reduced-price lunches on the USDA Food and Nutrition Service website.

To apply for an ACT test fee waiver, you should:

1. Talk to your high school counselor about your eligibility and interest in obtaining an ACT test fee waiver. Your counselor is responsible for verifying your eligibility and providing you with the appropriate waiver form.

2. Complete the waiver form with your counselor's guidance and make sure both of you sign the form.

3. When registering for the ACT test online, you'll need to enter the serial number of your fee waiver on the payment page to set the fee to $0.

Keep in mind that the ACT fee waiver covers the basic registration fee for either the ACT with or without the Writing section, up to a maximum of 2 test dates per test year. It does not cover additional services, such as test date or test center changes.

I hope this information helps! Good luck with your ACT preparation and registration.
