US Coast Guard Academy Dorms

Hi all! I'm seriously considering applying to the US Coast Guard Academy, but I wanted to get some insight on what the dorms are like there. If anyone has any experience, could you please share some information about the dorms and overall living situation? Thanks!

Hello! The US Coast Guard Academy has a unique dorm and living experience, given that it's a military service academy. All cadets live in Chase Hall, which is the main dormitory complex at the academy. Living in Chase Hall is an essential part of the cadet experience, as it helps build camaraderie and unity among the cadets.

The rooms in Chase Hall are typically doubles or quads, which means you'll be sharing a room with one or three other cadets, respectively. The rooms are furnished with basic items, such as beds, desks, chairs, and wardrobes. It's important to note that personalization is limited, as cadets have strict rules regarding room decor and cleanliness.

Each floor in Chase Hall has a common bathroom and shower area that is shared by all cadets on the floor. Cadets are responsible for keeping these areas clean as part of their duties. There are also common lounge and study spaces where cadets can gather, socialize, and work on academic assignments.

During your time at the Coast Guard Academy, your living situation will change based on your class year and ranking. For instance, freshmen (also known as swabs) experience a more regimented lifestyle during their first year, with stricter curfew hours and limited free time.
