Juilliard Musical Theater Program?

Hey, I'm super passionate about musical theater and considering applying to Juilliard. Does anyone know if they have a musical theater program or something similar? I'd appreciate any information about their performing arts programs! Thanks in advance.

Juilliard is an exceptional institution for the performing arts, but it's worth noting that they do not have a traditional musical theater program. They are known for their classical and conservatory-style training and offer degrees in music, dance, and drama. The closest program to musical theater would be the Drama Division, which offers a Bachelor of Fine Arts or a Diploma in Acting. The Drama Division focuses more on general acting, voice, and movement but does incorporate some elements of musical theater training in its curriculum.

Although Juilliard may not have a dedicated musical theater program, many graduates of their programs have had successful careers in the musical theater field. Students in the Drama Division can participate in school productions, which occasionally include musical theater offerings, and they may also have the opportunity to collaborate with students from the Music Division.

If you're passionate about musical theater and want a program dedicated specifically to that field, you might want to consider applying to other highly-regarded programs such as those at NYU Tisch School of the Arts, Carnegie Mellon University, University of Michigan, and Boston Conservatory at Berklee. These schools have acclaimed musical theater programs with a strong focus on the specialized skills required for the musical theater industry, along with ample opportunities to perform in musical theater productions throughout your undergraduate experience.

Finally, to get a clearer sense of which institution, and overall path in college, would be right for you, you may want to consider participating in an arts-related summer program. CollegeVine's blog has a list of reputable ones for high schoolers: https://blog.collegevine.com/high-school-art-summer-programs/. Many of them will allow you to connect with current professionals and educators who have firsthand experience with musical theater, and they can advise you on which program might be the best fit given your personal goals.

Best of luck with your search, and future pursuits in musical theater!
